Saas Museum

Travel back in time while exploring the four floors of the Saas museum, and discover the history of the holiday region Saas-Fee/Saastal. There you'll find a Saaser house from the turn of the last century, folk artefacts, beautiful traditional costumes, votive art, and – a real highlight – the study of the famous writer Carl Zuckmayer, who lived in Saas-Fee for twenty years.

Useful information

The building that now houses the Saas Museum is a former vicarage which was built in 1732. In 1855 an extra floor was added. In 1983 this typical old Saas house was opened as a museum on the initiative of the local historian Werner Imseng.

Postcard exhibition

Thomas Burgener, author of the Saas Valley family statistics and historian with an interest in the history of the Saas Valley, is exhibiting his gems from his large postcard collection. Around 250 original postcards from the Saas Valley from the last century are exhibited on 10 panels. The exhibition shows the history of the picture postcard, postcards of the Mattmark area, of alpinism, agriculture, transport, the first hotels, famous people, the churches as well as of all four Saas Valley municipalities.
